Payroll Training

Own your Workday Payroll.

Role-based training for the people who configure and run Workday Payroll. They learn what drives payroll results, how the work fits together, and where to investigate when something does not look right.

A common starting point

Configuration changes often mean opening a ticket and waiting for someone else to make the change.

The payroll process is familiar, but troubleshooting still depends heavily on experience and escalation.

Your team may know the process because they have run it repeatedly, but haven’t been taught why the system produces the results it does.

What changes

Handle more configuration changes internally and understand what is driving them.
Investigate unusual payroll results more systematically before deciding what needs escalation.

Who this is for

Built around the payroll work each role owns.

Payroll Administrators

This track is for the people responsible for payroll configuration, whether they make changes directly or lead the people who do. The curriculum connects configuration decisions to payroll results, so those decisions can be made and evaluated with greater understanding.

Payroll Partners

This track is for the people who run payroll each period. The curriculum strengthens their understanding of the full process, including what to review, how to investigate unusual results, and when an issue can be handled within their role or needs additional support.

What they walk away with

More ownership, backed by understanding.

Payroll Administrators

  • Interpret existing payroll configuration, understand what it is doing, and make changes with a clearer view of the expected result.
  • Trace a payroll result back through the configurations, calculations, and inputs that produced it.
  • Handle more payroll configuration changes internally instead of defaulting to outside support.
  • Recognize configuration problems earlier and know where to investigate before they affect payroll results.

Payroll Partners

  • Run payroll each period with a clearer understanding of how the recommended steps fit together and what each contributes to the result.
  • Use payroll audits to identify unusual results and determine what needs further review.
  • Approach retro pay, off-cycle payrolls, and corrections with a stronger understanding of what each requires.
  • Recognize when an issue may be driven by configuration and bring the right context to the people who need to investigate it.

What the organization gains

The impact extends beyond the payroll team.

Fewer avoidable payroll errors

A stronger understanding of payroll configuration helps the team catch more issues before they affect payroll results. That can mean less rework, fewer corrections, and fewer employee-facing problems.

A clearer path to proficiency

New payroll team members have a defined path for learning the role instead of piecing it together through experience alone. That gives the organization a more repeatable way to build payroll knowledge as the team changes.

Clearer answers during audits

When the team understands what drives payroll results, they are better prepared to explain those results and answer questions that arise during an audit.

How it’s structured

Two tracks, built around two roles.

01

Payroll Administrator Track

Four delivery days focused on the configuration that drives payroll results, including how the pieces fit together, how changes affect outcomes, and how to evaluate what the system is doing. Built for the people responsible for payroll configuration.

02

Payroll Partner Track

Three delivery days focused on running the payroll process from start to finish, including inputs, processing, audits, retro and off-cycle payrolls, and recognizing when an issue may require configuration support. Built for the people who run payroll each period.

How each day works

Each delivery day includes about three hours of structured curriculum plus up to three hours of open Q&A in your tenant. You can schedule either track independently or both, depending on your team’s needs.
